I looked in the nest 2 days ago and can only see 3 babies...today I can only find 2 babies..... Then I started to look on the ground...where I found the 2 babies that were the smaller ones and got pushed out of the nest... I feel so bad... I wonder how many times I walked passed these babies on the ground and didn't see them? I wonder if I could have fed them if I had found them earlier? If they would have taken a worm from me. I suppose this is nature...but such a mean nature...

ReplyDeleteThe baby bird might not have gotten pushed out, but accidently fell out when he was opening his mouth to be fed. We saw that happen last year to a baby robin. The mommy built her nest in a cotoneaster tree along our patio and one night as we were sitting outside, mommy came along with a big ole worm and he opened wide and teetered out of the nest. After mommy left, I picked him up and put him back in his nest and he was fine after that. No one rejected him or anything. Our local weather forecaster keeps announcing this time of year during his forecast that it's just a myth about the mommy bird rejecting their young if a human touches it. So if you see any babies on the ground and can reach their nest, to put them back in. That's what I did and everything was fine! So hopefully if the little guy's still around, try putting him back!

Awww...I'm sorry.. they can be quite nasty. Still cute though!!
ReplyDeleteit is survival of the fittest..we watch our babies poke out their heads of the little round hole of the door and the biggest is getting fed while the little one trys pushing past to get some food...that little baby probably died of broken bones..they are so fragile...and too young to be fed from us...poor little things..
